INTRODUCTION
In 1995, Mr. Eric Knipe started
his research and development of engineered lumber with fire, termite,
and mold resistant properties with help from the Alberta Research
Council, together with two of the largest OSB producers in North
America and others. With all the necessary study requirements
performed from 1995 to 2008, Mr. Knipe introduced a technologically
advanced, patent pending, EPA registered product introduced
during the manufacturing process.
This long awaited technology now
known as MR BX-09-05-1994, protects and prevents the wood cellulose
from fungi (mold) growth (stachybotrys chartarum and aspergillus
niger), creating the first engineered mold and termite resistant
lumber (oriented strand board, plywood, particle board and medium
density fiber board) known as Mold Resistant Engineered Lumber
(MREL).
Opportunity Solution
Benefits
PROBLEM:
A growing number of progressive engineered wood
product manufacturers are looking at the mold issue as an opportunity,
rather than as a threat, and are warranting mold protected wood
building products through the shipping, storage and construction
process. They realize that the consuming public have already made
up their mind that mold growth on building products is unacceptable.
Large retailers, including the "big box" stores, have
reacted to public apprehension over mold and have instituted what
amounts to a zero tolerance policy for mold on the building products
they carry. Home builders are another group that take mold issues
seriously. According to a recent study, over 60 percent of home
builders have taken measures to prevent mold in the homes they build.
Many have been known to reject loads of building products that arrive
on-site with obvious mold infestation.
OPPORTUNITY AND SOLUTION:
U-NEX Forest Products turns these potential
negative situations into positive opportunities for engineered wood
product manufacturers to introduce products with built-in mold protection.
This not only responds to growing public concerns, but also creates
new value-added products in a historically commodity-minded business.
U-NEX Forest Products offers manufacturers
the solution to address a potentially major issue involving OSB
and other wood-based substrates and to open new markets for value-added
products such as U-NEX Forest Product's MREL.
BENEFITS:
Our MREL Jobsite Panels (Jobsites
MR OSB, MTR OSB, MTR PLY, MR MDF and MR PB) PROTECT AND
BENEFIT BUILDERS AND OWNERS AND THEIR LONG-TERM INVESTMENTS IN
INDUSTRIAL, MULTI-FAMILY AND COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS:
Our MREL Jobsite Panels are priced
competitively with other building materials with the added feature
of eliminating mold, mildew and termites. NO OTHER PRODUCT ON
THE MARKET HAS THESE FEATURES! There are numerous features of
MREL Jobsite Panels that benefit both the builder
and the owner, from high-speed construction, to unparalleled strength-to-weight
ratio, to enhanced safety durability. MREL Jobsite Panels
can be used for walls, flooring, ceilings, and roofing in remodeling,
constructing part of a building, or constructing a building from
conception.
Our MREL Jobsite Panels (Jobsites
MR OSB, MTR OSB, MTR PLY, MR MDF and MR PB) SAFEGUARD YOUR
FAMILY:
Our MREL Jobsite Panels are resistant
to moisture, which causes mold, mildew and rot, and it safeguards
against termites and other insect infestations, keeping your family
protected from the forces of Mother Nature and her creatures.
MREL panels do not release compounds or allergens associated
with sick buildings.
Our MREL Jobsite Panels (Jobsites
MR OSB, MTR OSB, MTR PLY, MR MDF and MR PB) ARE COST EFFECTIVE
AND AFFORDABLE:
Our MREL Jobsite Panels substantially
reduces construction costs in the long term. The MREL Jobsite
Panel components of a building can remain nearly maintenance
free almost indefinitely, saving dramatically on upkeep over time.
In addition, our MREL Jobsite Panels reduce heating
and cooling energy costs, which results in lower upfront maintenance
costs for equipment. More importantly, end users receive continued
long-term savings on energy, a concern of critical importance
in todays environment.
OTHER BENEFITS INCLUDE:
Lower insurance and financing costs
Fewer employees are required
Elimination
of highly trained employees
Fewer call-backs are received
Cost-savings
on shipping and storage
Eligible for Green tax credits
Improved
sound and thermal insulation
Durability over a significant period of time
Elimination of gassing building materials
(significantly reduces allergens)
